“We tell ourselves stories in order to live,” wrote Joan Didion. We do this as individuals—we make meaning out of the events of our lives. But we do this as communities too. We tell and retell, revise and remix, make prequels and sequels of stories our grandparents told or read or watched.

Some stories capture the wisdom of our ancestors. Some reflect divine light and truth. Some make us laugh or cry or scream. Or all of those things.

J.M. Barry first wrote the play, Peter Pan in 1904. We—the cast and creative team—tell the story today to share laughter and light and love in a time of wars and floods, of deaths and sicknesses.

So, just for a couple hours, let’s laugh together. Let’s play together. Let’s love together. And let us all remember, that “to have faith is to have wings.”

Synopsis

A playground. A group of friends telling a story: It is 1885, during the reign of Queen Victoria, when two ships of the British Empire set sail across the high seas toward the imaginary kingdom of Rundoon. Aboard one ship, The Neverland, three orphan boys encounter Molly Aster, a clever, spirited girl and the daughter of lord Aster who serves the queen. She is sworn to protect a trunk of starstuff from the Queen. One of the orphans, known only as Boy, is bitter and withdrawn, but meeting Molly begins to turn his lonely world upside down.

On the second ship, The Wasp, Molly’s father, Lord Aster, is unaware he is gaurding a decoy trunk. But the cunning pirate captain, Black Stache, quickly uncovers the trick and sets his sights on The Neverland.

When a violent storm strikes, chaos erupts. Molly and the orphan boys must fight to protect the starstuff from Black Stache, his crew, and the dangers of the sea itself. Amid the turmoil, The Neverland is torn apart.

In the midst of it all, Boy comes face to face with Black Stache, as the storm rages on, Peter narrowly escapes drowning by clinging to the trunk, riding the waves to a mysterious nearby island.

And this is only the beginning.

What fate awaits Molly, Peter, and the lost boys? Why is everyone so desperate to possess the starstuff and what power does it hold? And will anyone or anything be able to stop Black Stache and his pirates?

Discover a thrilling new side to the classic characters you thought you knew.
