Music Program Scholarships

The scholarships listed below are unique to the BYU–Hawaii Music Program.

Information on other university scholarships based on academic performance (GPA) and external scholarships may be found on the Financial Services page.

Talent Award Scholarship

Talent Awards are the most commonly received music scholarships.

Scholarship Requirements:

  1. Minimum Cumulative GPA 2.5
  2. Major: Music major not required
  3. Abide by the BYU–Hawaii Honor Code
  4. Enrolled at BYU–Hawaii full time (14 credits per semester)
  5. Participation in music ensemble(s)

Melba W. Staples Music Scholarship

Scholarship Requirements:

  1. Minimum Cumulative GPA 2.5
  2. Major: Music Education
  3. Abide by the Honor Code of the University
  4. Enrolled at BYU–Hawaii full time (12 credits per semester and 6 credits per term)
  5. Attach a typed, one-page essay to your application
  6. Junior or Senior standing
  7. Obtaining a teaching certificate

Kyle Mahi Mori Music Scholarship

Scholarship Requirements:

  1. Minimum Cumulative GPA 2.5
  2. Minimum music class GPA: 2.7 (B-)
  3. Major: Music - only for Sophomores, Juniors or Seniors
  4. Abide by the Honor Code of the University
  5. Enrolled at BYU-Hawaii full time (12 credits per semester and 6 credits per term)
  6. Attach a typed, one-page essay to your application
  7. Demonstration of commitment to graduate from BYU-Hawaii
  8. Demonstration of versatility and excellence in choral music and one other area of music
  9. Attach letters of recommendation from music faculty
  10. Attach official school transcript of grades
